SF Beer Week is a collection of curated events, spanning multiple days, celebrating craft beer, the craft community and the Bay Area's creative spirit.
What is SF Beer Week about and what are these events?
Each year, breweries, venues and event hosts of all types, from across the Bay, celebrate independent craft beer and its role within our communities of fostering friendships, encouraging collaboration, and as a source of creativity and self expression. We do this in the form of a curated "week" (actually ten days) of amazing, inspiring events and activities. If you're a lover of experiences and socializing, there's probably an event for you! SF Beer Week's events -- and there will be hundreds of them -- cater to many tastes:
beer - hoppy, sweet and malty, sour, barrel-aged, cask-conditioned, etc.
food - multi-course dinners; cheese, dessert and all types of pairings; brunches, tests of the palette
entertainment - music, movies, games, sporting events, pinball!
creative - the arts, humanities, fitness, challenges & competitions
community - education, causes, social justice, neighborhood tours
...even family-oriented events, held in family-friendly venues -- plus many events do not require any purchase of alcohol to join the fun.
When are events listed?
Event submission for 2020 is now live, with the initial list of events posting in early December. Sign up for our mailing list on the home page (scroll to bottom) to receive announcements and other SFBW news.

How can I make the most of SF Beer Week?
With so many events, planning is key. SF Beer Week offers a few tools to make that easier, including the ability for you to create and share your own itinerary (account req'd), to filter and sort by a host of criteria (event type, event time, geography, participants, etc.), and to look up what's happening at your favorite venues.
Also, remember that San Francisco and the greater Bay Area are home to a little bit of everything. We highly recommend checking out SF Travel for resources for exploring the city and surrounding area, including hotel information, dining recommendations, insight on SF neighborhoods, transportation resources and more. What beers should I expect?
What you can expect is diversity -- rare, cask, barrel-aged, experimental, new releases, seasonals and more. Events will usually include details about who is participating and any special beers that may be served. Since events are constantly being added, and updated, it's best to check back often. You're best bet is to create an account and favorite the events you want to keep track of.
What does it cost to attend an event?
The cost to attend an event, if any, is determined by the host venue or event producer. Many events are 'pay as you go,' meaning free to attend, but you pay for any beer and/or food you consume. Other events may require an admission fee, or advanced reservations, or ticket purchase. Still other events may offer free food samples or discounts.
Where do I get tickets for events?
If a venue or event host requires a ticket purchase or reservations to participate in an event, instructions and/or a link to purchase tickets should be included within the event's listing.
Are children or dogs allowed at SF Beer Week events?
Policies of the individual venues apply. Please contact them directly using the venue links on the event pages.
What are my transportation options for getting around?
We strongly encourage you and those with you to drink responsibly, use ride-sharing services, carpool with a designated driver, or take public transportation.

Who attends SF Beer Week events?
The craft community is a big one and craft beer appeals to a wide range of people. SF Beer Week events are diverse, and collaboration encouraged across kindred industries that are as creative and as committed to self expression as craft beer itself: the arts, entertainment, food, tech, humanities, and more. That said, if there were a core audience, it would be cadres of active, over 21 individuals (and we do mean "individuales"!) who enjoy sharing passions and focusing on the experiential.
Can anyone submit an event?
An event should be submitted by the licensed party hosting it, typically a pub, restaurant, or other venue, or a brewery when an event is happening in its tasting room. Hosts must be licensed to serve alcohol on their premises, or be a nonprofit that has obtained a temporary license (ie. special event permit) from the California Department of Alcohol to serve alcohol at its events on rented premises.
What businesses typically participate?
Major participants are independent breweries, venues of all types, and distributors who bring the goods, so to speak, while brewers making the rounds to meet and greet as many people as they can.
My business has never participated before. How do we get involved?
Venues interested in participating in SF Beer Week usually come up with event ideas through collaboration with the breweries or their distributor partners directly. The Event Guidelines is your friend here, too, offering ideas and creative spins on events.

What type of events may be submitted?
SF Beer Week is a curated experience, so all events must meet certain requirements and are subject to approval. See the SF Beer Week Event Guidelines to learn more about submitting events. Note: Independent breweries need to be central to any SF Beer Week event, and any submitted activities and their participants must be in compliance with the CA Dept. of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Again, refer to our guidelines for details.
What's are listing options and what's an "Activity"?
SF Beer Week supports two listing types - Events and Activities. Events are the main focus of SF Beer Week, and they're essentially formal gatherings or happenings set at a specific time and place. Sometimes, though, a venue may want to offer something special throughout SF Beer Week that's not an Event, for ex., selling a beer-infused ice cream or donut. Or, offering a special pairing menu during restraunt hours for people to swing in and try anytime. (All real world examples!) In these cases, the available listing option is an Activity, where you can assign the listing to multiple days at a reduced cost. Before selecting, however, please review the SF Beer Week Event Guidelines to fully appreciate their differences, including how each presents on the SF Beer Week site. Note, too, SF Beer Week is a curated experience, so all listing submissions are reviewed to ensure proper classification.
What is the cut off for submitting an event?
Submitting events early provides you with greater exposure, access to really cool marketing materials, and long lead times to promote your events. It also means your events are there when people being making their SF Beer Week plans -- and many do so way ahead of time! That said, event submission will close at midnight on Tuesday, February 4.
I submitted an event but it's not showing up on the schedule. Where is it?
It may take up to a week for an event to be processed. If you've submitted an event and don't see it posted beyond that timeframe, and received no communication from us, please contact us. In general, SF Beer Week reserves the right to reject any event, for any reason, although you would be contacted in such an instant.
You edited my listing. What gives?
SF Beer Week is a curated experience, intent on promoting quality events and a great user experience. We all benefit when the information being presented conforms to a consistent look, feel and tone. It's also essential that events comply with the CA Dept. of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Therefore all submissions are subject to review, modification and approval, strictly at the discretion of the SF Beer Week team, and may be edited to ensure a concise, informative and pleasant read. For these reasons, only material changes should be made to an event after it has been approved.
How can I be listed in the Participants section?
Profiles are not guaranteed but an enhanced feature, and provided discretionally at no add'l cost. When exactly a profile is added to an account is dependent on when events are approved (a potential participant must first have an approved event in the system), the number of total events submitted, if an organization is a sponsor or a brewery member (as a matter of prioritization), and the submission backlog -- ie. how many events and venues are ahead, with event listings always taking priority. Profiles get added to an account on our side, based on the aforementioned criteria, but once a profile is activated, it can be modified from within the account interface.
How can I raise the profile of my events?
All events collectively benefit from massive SF Beer Week promotion, which includes extensive marketing, social medi, public relation and partner campaigns that target local, regional, national and international audiences and include amplified outreach through 150+ breweries and more than a hundred additional participating venues. Can I distribute information or products at an SF Beer Week event?
No. Distribution of materials at an SF Beer Week event is restricted to authorized parties, such as the venue, a participating brewery, or the Bay Area Brewers Guild. If you wish to distribute materials or be involved in an event in some more active way, contact us.
