Scotch Parabola 2017

Firestone Walker

Imperial Scotch Stout

11.5% ABV | 70 IBUs

The base beer is the Parabola and matured for three months in Single malt Scotch barrels from the Distillery Ardbeg. This distillery is located in the Islay Region of Scotland, which is known to produce some of the world’s best high peat Scotch. The Ardbeg 10 year old was voted “2008 Whisky of the Year” in Jim Murrays book “The Whisky Bible”. Nose: Upfront there is an exceptional depth and balance with a seductive mix of toffee and chocolate sweetness alongside cinnamon and medicinal phenols. As the beer warms slightly it is followed by citrus and floral notes of white wines evident as melon and overripe pear. Taste: An initial clean sweetness then briefly comes into play a mouthfeel of deep peat notes, sea salt, smoked fish, tobacco smoke and strong espresso coffee. Finish: Lasting with a seaside campfire smoke.

Stickee Monkee 2015

Central Coast Quad

11.4% ABV

Brewed with Belgian candi sugar and aged in a selection of fine bourbon barrels, Stickee Monkee trailblazes its own category as a “Central Coast Quad.” The name Stickee Monkee is a nod to the Central Coast’s native Sticky Monkey flower, as well as a shout­‐out to the Belgian monks who pioneered the Quad style. It has been said that the only constant is change and the same is true for barrel-aged beers. Cut from a similar recipe, this barrel-aged Quad evolves and shows a different face each year; a result of time spent aging in the barrel. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico adds wonderful molasses flavors that are reminiscent of Belgian candi sugar. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over; toasted oak, coconut, leather and rich cigar tobacco.

Reginald Brett 2017

Strong Wild Ale

9.7% ABV

Once a Liberal Party politician in the U.K., the “Viscount Esher,” aka Reginald Brett, left a strong impression on his native England as this latest offering from Barrelworks will leave with you. Yet another Barrelworks creation with DBA roots, this beer begins as Double DBA and is selectively matured in bourbon barrels for several months. A further 18 months of secondary fermentation and additional maturation in French and American oak barrels creates unparalleled depth and complexity. This hefty brew is brimming with a full spectrum of flavors and aromas: Nutty sherry aromas mingle with Oak, then give way to a Cointreau-like boozy orange zest. Tart cherries linger as the acidity builds on the palate. Vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon provide a supporting cast. The whole experience is reminiscent of a Manhattan cocktail. Krieky Bones 2017

Wild Ale with Sour Cherries

6.3% ABV

What began as a birthday gift took on a life of its own. Proprietor David Walker cornered us one day and requested a sour cherry fermented beer for his 50th birthday. A handful was sold at a release and our customers demanded more. Behold Krieky Bones! This beer begins its life as a Flanders Red inspired beer aged over a year in French oak foeders. Sour Montmorency cherries are added and allowed a secondary fermentation. The aroma is of cherry pie complete with flavors of pie crust, spice and an underlying funk. Vienna malt notes give way to an assertive acidity and a bright carbonation. A santé! Wild Ale with Raspberries

5.1% ABV

Thirty miles north of Barrelworks lies the fertile Santa Maria Valley. Its warm days and cool marine layer-fed evenings allow for a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables to grow in its rich soil. One such offering is fresh locally grown raspberries, which we carefully select for Bretta Rosé. Bretta Weisse, fermented and matured in French oak barrels, serves as the foundation for this gem. Add an abundance of fresh raspberries, allow a secondary wild fermentation and further maturation, and voilà! The result is a crisp effervescent concoction bursting with raspberry perfume and flavor, bracing acidity, underlying funk, and a clean refreshing finish. Santé! The Velvet Merlin oatmeal stout has been transformed into a mindblowing mouthful known as Nitro Merlin Milk Stout.  The new ingredient is lactose, a.k.a. milk sugar. When Velvet Merlin is brewed with milk sugar to create Nitro Merlin Milk Stout, the effect is similar to adding cream to your dark roasted coffee. The wizardry comes via “nitro,” the brewing nickname for nitrogen gas.

Pivo Pils offers impeccable balance with floral aromatics, spicy herbal nuances, and bergamot zest and lemongrass notes from dry hopping with German Saphir hops.

DBA—a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is the trailblazing flagship beer that started it all for us back in 1996. Partially fermented in our patented Firestone Union oak-­‐barrel brewing system, DBA quickly took the Central Coast by storm and set the pace for future beers to come. Today, DBA is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-­‐fermented English ales. Pale malts create a smooth middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak.
